Update on Linen closet clean up

In cleaning out my linen closet, I found enough extra stuff to make three 72-hour kit zip locks with wash clothes, soap, shampoo, teeth brushing supplies etc. So, two good things done and accomplished! Oh and on a side note, I finally hung up a framed picture I have had for several months. I am SO back on track.

Great News

As a loyal The Police and Sting fan, I found this to be great news.

Back on Track

I consider myself an organzied person and have daily lists of things that need to get accomplished to stay on track with house cleaning, bill paying, visiting teaching etc. Well, yesterday everything blew up around here and I never recovered. I got phone calls from people who NEVER call me and who needed info about things I had to stop and look up. I had a baby who was fussy and wanted to be held all day and a 5 and almost 3 year old who wanted my attention all day long. Finally, at 4:00 pm, I just gave up and took everyone to Baskin Robbins and let everyone get double decker ice cream cones. And to answer what most of you are thinking, no that was not dinner, even though I was tempted to let it be. We had tuna fish sandwiches.

So, today, thank goodness, I am back on track. I am caught up on my laundry, you can see the floor in most of the rooms in the house, all diapers are collected and in the outside garbage and I even managed to get 35 minutes of exercising in. It is now off to the linen closet and get that back into shape (it has needed it for quite a while). Tonight we just have an indoor soccer game and then I am on the sofa watching American Idol.

Lobster Tales

Dentist husband and I took our kids to a local fish restaurant for lunch yesterday. There was a huge lobster tank full of very large and active lobsters. Toothsome #3 (age 2) was VERY afraid of the tank and clutched tightly to me the whole time we were looking at it. Dentist husband said, "Don't worry, we won't let the lobsters get you." He then looked at both us and said, "Yea, they can eat ******(his older brothers name)." So, look out Toothsome #1, in a crisis, your younger brother is more than willing to sacrifice you to save himself.

Later in the day, Toothsome #4 walks in the family holding a tennis racket and says, "Daddy is a pinching lobster and I am going to get him." Fortunately, Daddy was paying attention and was able to grab the tennis racket before any serious contact was made.

Things That have Gotten Me Through

I had my fourth child (toothsome #4) three months ago and as I was drinking my Sonic Drive Thur's, Route 44, I thought I would document things that have helped me survive the sleep deprived and busy life I have been living ever since.

1. A Route 44 Diet Coke with Fresh Lime from Sonic Drive -Thru. 44 ounces of caffeine infused deliciousness.

2. Barbacoa Restaurant: A local Mexican restaurant, very similar to Chipotle, that is close to our house, tasty and healthy. All my kids love it and we seem to eat there about twice a week since toothsome #4 was born.

3. Dentist husband, who has been wonderful in watching and getting up in the middle of the night with Toothsomes 1, 2, and 3 so I can get a little more sleep.

4. Regular phone calls to my friend Diane I. She is a friend from elementary school who I talk to several times a day. I look forward to the daily fun she infuses into my life.

5. All children's TV programing--Wiggles in particular. This occupies toothsome #3 while I try and sneak in a nap or at the very least, keeps in him in one place so I can cuddle and hold him and know he is not destroying another part of the house.

6. Toothsomes 1, 2 and 3 who usually play nicely together, so I can nurse undisturbed and give my new little one some special Mom time.

7. My Roomba: My robot vacuum that vacuums for me while I clean and manage other parts of my life. It has changed my life so much, I am buying another one.

8. Hot baths: At the end of the day, there is nothing better than climbing into a hot tub with a good book.

Why Toothsome?

I had a hard time coming up with a name for this blog but finally settled on "toothsome family." When dentist husband and I were first married, he wanted to create a family e-mail account. Because he was a dentist, he wanted the word "tooth" in the title. After an exhaustive search of "tooth" words in the dictionary, most of which were relatively goofy, we settled on

toothsome meaning: 1: agreeable, attractive 2: of palatable flavor and pleasing texture, delicious.

It seemed like the best word of the bunch and for years we had an e-mail account with the name toothsome in it. We have since created several new ones but learned that nobody ever forgets our toothsome account. So, with a husband who keeps this family running by working with teeth all day, and I like to think of ourselves as an agreeable bunch, it is as good of a name as any.

I did it!

I have finally created my own blog! Several of my friends have suggested it because I send out regular e-mails dealing with my experiences as a busy and under slept mother of little kids. I was a little intimidated by the thought of creating my own blog but I finally succumbed today. So, here you have it--my official blog.
