9 Things Our Courtship and marriage

Several people have been tagged for this post and I thought I would say just one comment after reading several of people's "How I met my husband" story. It appears as if there were not singles wards, most of us would still be single. Thank goodness for the inspiration of Singles Wards.
Where did you meet your husband?
I met Dentist husband at the CU student ward in Boulder, CO. I was home for the summer from BYU (between my 3rd and 4th years) and he was finishing up his first year of Dental School.
What was the first thing you said to your husband?
He was in the bishopric and called me on the phone to give me a calling. Yes, the phone--very against protocol when it comes to extending a calling in a ward but he had just left bishopric meeting at about 10:00pm that night and was given strict instructions to call me to the position (Family Home Evening leader) before church the next day. He knew a girl (me) he had never met before would not agree to meet him at the Institute at 10:30pm on a Saturday night. So he just called me and extended the call over the phone. I said yes and that was it.

Where was the first kiss?
On the front porch of my parent's house at about 4:00 am (the newspaper boy had just delivered the paper :) at the end of our first date!

First date?
More like job interview! I was 23 and he was 24 and we both had been through enough first dates that we didn't want to waste time dating each other if either one of us didn't meet some basic criteria. The first part of dinner there were sentences like, "I moving back to Utah when I graduate from dental school. If you don't like Utah, we should probably end this date now." And, "I don't want to work after I have kids. It is nonnegotiable." We ate at the Olive Garden and saw the movie Mission Impossible then drove around for hours talking and then like I mentioned above had a GREAT first kiss at the end.
Did you have a long or short courtship/engagement?
We dated 10 months and were engaged for 9 months. We both wanted a long engagement and it was a super fun time.

How did he propose? Dental students are very poor and we did a lot of creative inexpensive dates. One of our favorites was what we called Night Kiting, where we would put a glow stick on a kite and fly it at night. We went night kiting and during the date he got down on one knee and proposed.
Where did you get married? Salt Lake Temple--on a cold day in December.

How did the reception go? Great. I wanted the reception the night before we got married so our wedding day memories were about the sealing and not all of the festivities. We had it at the Old Meeting House in Salt Lake City. A week later, after our honeymoon, we had another reception at my house in Boulder, CO.

Honeymoon? We spent part of it in a cabin my father-in-law owns and another part in a Bed and Breakfast in Estes Park, CO.

OK, if you are reading this, you are tagged. If you don't blog, put your answers in the comment section.

What a great post! The Night Kiting sounds cool. I'll have to do that with my boys. Your marriage interview, I mean, 1st date sounds cool. You both must have passed. ;) I agree about the Singles Wards - my sister met her honey that way too.
