Books I Read This Weekend

While I should have done other things this weekend, I read the following two books:

Losing It and Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time by Valerie Bertinelli

and

Mudbound by Hillary Jordan

OK, I am a little embarrassed about reading Valerie Bertinelli's book but it was a non-stress, escape reading for me. She has lived one trashy life and the decisions she made (and keeps on making) astound me, but again, it was ESCAPE reading and for sure, it was an escape from my very conservative life. So, if you need such a thing, this is a good one. But, please just check it out of the library and don't pay money that would go back to her and support her trashy habits.

Mudbound is not escape reading but I loved it. It tells the story two farm families (one white and one black) in Georgia post Civil War. Each chapter is told from one of the character's perspectives and full of sadness it was still a good read. I think it has won several awards.

I have now started "The Thirteen Tale" by Diane Setterfield. It was recommended to me by a friend who has always given me good reads, so I am assuming I will like this one but I am only a few pages into it and I don't know when I will make time to continue it. I have PILES of laundry, 8 Scouts coming to my house for a bike rodeo and I am hoping to make it to the gym tonight. Not likely.

Oh an on two side notes, we attended two baptisms this weekend for boys my oldest son's age. One of the houses had dinner catered by Kneaders. Only crap, their tortellini pasta salad is to die for! My friend gave me the left overs and I have lived on it all weekend long. I have a feeling I will be stopping by there often to get some.

Other side note, our ward did the GREATEST ward activity this weekend. They called it a "Neighborhood Walkabout". They put a sign on every one's door in our ward boundaries saying we were sponsoring a nighttime walk/social activity. Three houses were assigned as watering holes and they were asked to provide refreshments. From 6:00-8:00 pm, they encouraged everyone to walk to the three assigned "watering holes" where you could stop, socialize and get some refreshments. Even though I live in the heart of Mormondom, our ward is very anemic when it comes to attending activities and this is the BEST attendance I have ever seen at one. Mormon/non-Mormon alike a ton of people came out and did it. It was great. So if you are looking for an activity idea . . . Oh, they plan on doing this the first Sunday of every month for the whole summer. Pretty cool.

Final thing, I do plan on posting a picture of me in the previous post-mentioned Prom dress. I don't have a scanner, or I would post an original 1991 picture as well. My date (sigh) was darling and a class act.

Your a very fast reader.
